St. Bonaventure’s annual Move Out Sale scheduled for May 14-16 at Richter Center

May 06, 2024

St. Bonaventure University’s annual Move Out Sale will be held on campus May 14-16 in Richter Center.

The sale will first be open to university employees from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14. Employees must show their university ID card.

The sale will then be open to the public from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 14, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 15, and 9 to noon May 16.

SBU’s Franciscan Center for Social Concern sponsors the sale each year as a way to give attention to usable household items that often get put into dumpsters. The items sold each year are donated by students as they move out of residence halls and apartments each spring.

Student volunteers collect, organize and sell the donated goods before going home for the summer break.

The Move Out Sale is coordinated by the FCSC with the primary goal of raising funds for its various service and outreach programs, such as Bona Buddies, the Warming House, Silver Wolves, SBU@SPCA, the SBU Food Pantry, and many others.

“Finding a new home for these goods and being able to provide them to people aligns with Catholic social teaching and the Franciscan value of care for creation,” said Conor Amendola, a sophomore Media Studies major with minors in Theology and Philosophy, and one of the student managers for this year’s Move Out Sale.

“I am surprised how much we can contribute by collecting the items that our students are not able to take home at the end of the year. We are so glad to pass the items onto the community where they will be used with care,” Amendola added.

Richter Center is located on the south end of campus near Reilly Center. For more information, contact Mike Waseda at hwaseda@sbu.edu.
